Perfect for Petites! Short Story Box Review

This Short Story box review is just for petites! If you’re 5’4 or shorter (or love someone who is), this is the style box to try!

My mom has been on the hunt for cute petite clothing, well, forever I guess. 😁 Which means I’ve been on the hunt with her! If you’re a petite woman you know the selection most stores carry isn’t…great.

I don’t know how many times we’ve gone through a petite section in a department store to find 1) a very small selection and 2) clothing that is outdated, frumpy, and just plain not cute. Why does being short=being frumpy?

Considering the average height of American women is 5’4, I think this is pretty ridiculous. This is a HUGE market and one that retailers and designers just seem to overlook.

Enter Short Story.

Short Story Box Review

Short Story is a personal styling service for women 5’4 and below. Similar to Stitch Fix or Wantable in function, but featuring clothing specifically designed for petite women!

My mom has been a Stitch Fix subscriber for a few years and while she’s found a few great pieces, she still runs into the same issue she has in stores- clothes just don’t fit correctly.

Shirts don’t hang properly, pants are too long, etc. These clothes just aren’t designed for short people.

She found Short Story and treated herself to a box for her recent birthday. Everything. Fit.

Like, everything in the box. Fit. IT ALL FIT.

She received three tops and two pairs of pants in her first box and it was like these clothes were made for her body. Which they were, because they were for petites!

As she showed me what she received I thought it would be great to document because though I am not petite, I know so many women are and struggle to find clothes that fit!

Here’s what came in her first box:

  • Ray Tie-Front Blouse ($48)
  • Kelsey Straight Trouser ($89)

The color of this top is perfect for my mom (we’re a green-eyed family) and the tie-detail is great. The pants fit so perfectly and the quality of the fabric was so, so good. These were definitely keepers!

Short Story Outfit 2

  • Double Ruffle Short Sleeve Crew Neck Top ($44)
  • Gia Glider Pull-On Slim Straight Leg Jean 27″ Inseam ($89)

A great top you can dress up or down and a perfect-in-length pair of jeans! What’s great about a top like this is that it’s great for layering with your favorite jackets and sweaters, but the ruffle sleeve detail also makes it a stand-alone piece too!

Short Story Outfit 3

  • V-Neck Wrap Top with Side Tie Detail ($44)
  • (Shown with the Kelsey trouser)

I always love a wrap top, and the color of this is great for summer and the fall meaning you’ll get lots of wear! Another perfect fit and a piece that can go casual to dressed-up just based on how to style it.

She ended up keeping the first outfit from the box, the green top and blue trousers.

How do you get started?

You start off by taking a style quiz giving their team of stylists ideas on pulling outfits you’ll love. You can then schedule those deliveries as often as you want.

What does it cost?

Similar to other subscription boxes, Short Story has a $25 styling fee which is applied to anything you choose to keep. As far as the clothing prices, their website states that pieces start at $32 up to $250. (And you can give your price preferences for what they send too.) Keep reading to see how to try it for FREE!

What sizes do they carry?

Short Story currently sizes 00P-20P and working to expand their range. They carry established brands (Good American, Vince Camuto, etc.) but also newer brands and have their own exclusive lines as well.

Can I try it for FREE?

OK, I told you I’d show you how to try this box for free and it couldn’t be easier! Just follow this link and you’ll have your $25 styling fee waived! (And my mom will get a credit towards her account if you end up purchasing anything!)

She just received another box this week and while I didn’t get pics of what she received this time, I do know she kept a great white top that will be the perfect base for many many outfits and another great fitting pair of pants (they’re green!).

I know cute petite clothing can be hard to come by, (believe me, I look before every Christmas and birthday) but Short Story has done an excellent job of securing great quality items that will last a long time.

I hope this Short Story box review has been helpful. If you’re petite and other ideas to share on where to find clothes, let me know!
