A few weeks ago I drove about 20 minutes south of where I live to Chickasha, Oklahoma with my friend, Karrie for lunch. We parked and walked up and down the streets of the downtown area and I was surprised to find some cute boutiques! I don’t visit Chickasha very often so I had no idea what I was missing! I thought it would be fun to profile a couple of the places I visited and the first up today, Steel Velvet!
Where to Find Steel Velvet:
416 W Chickasha Ave, Chickasha, OK 73018
Store Hours:
Tuesday – Friday: 10:00 – 6:00 PM, Saturday: 10:00 – 4:00 PM
About the Owner:
After getting a degree in Broadcast Journalism, Hollee worked in different fields before returning to her love of fashion and beauty. She enrolled at Vidal Sassoon and eventually got into the spray tan business. After renting out some booth space in the current store location, she had the opportunity to purchase the shop, so she did! She’s had ownership for just over a year now and was kind enough to let me wander through the store, taking photos and asking questions! (And just as she was trying to recover from the crazy tax-free shopping weekend!)
One of the cool things about Steel Velvet is the mix of merchandise they offer. Now you all know I’m a city girl at heart (who lives next to a wheat field) so I was happy to see some more contemporary styles alongside some classic southern style. Really, there’s a little bit of everything!
There are two things you’ll notice as you walk around the store (aside from the merchandise)- 1) There are so many cool vintage sofas! 2) There’s a tractor inside! One of the ways Hollee has chosen to keep her family close to her business is by displaying some family heirlooms. The tractor inside belonged to her great -grandfather and was the first brand-new tractor he ever bought. Also, the wood that runs alongside the wall behind the counter is the original wood from her family’s homestead when they settled during the land run! Pretty cool!
Steel Velvet is big on supporting Oklahoma-owned businesses and there were plenty of items on display from jewelry, clothing, and baby gifts, to gourmet popcorn and a line of natural, vegan lip balms and lotions.
My friend and I noticed these fun bracelets when we stopped in the first time. You can grab a bracelet or cuff and then buy the “snaps” you want to add! A pretty fun customize-able item! (And what a great idea for Mother’s Day, a sports mom, or just for yourself!)

Two items that caught my eye this trip? First, this floral dress for $32. This print has a vintage feel with a modern spin that I love!
And these shoes, also $32. I think Karrie and I both admired these shoes when we visited!
Next time you’re in the Chickasha area, you need to make a stop at Steel Velvet! Tell Hollee I sent you! :)
